The product

One sock, four colours, four sizes

A crew-height waterproof sock in UK 3 to UK 14, from £20 a pair. The same sock and the same price whichever page you arrived on.

  • From £20 a pair

Free UK delivery on every order. Buying more than one brings the per-pair price down to £16.

  • Sized on foot length, not shoe size

Four bands cover UK 3 to UK 14. Shoe sizing is not consistent between brands, and the foot is what actually has to fit.

  • Fourteen days to change your mind

No reason needed, and no form to find. Your statutory rights are the floor here, not the ceiling.

How they work

Three layers. Only the middle one is waterproof, and it never touches your skin or the inside of your boot.

A HydroSox sock separating into its three layers

Inner layer

Next to the skin

A soft knitted lining against your foot. It moves sweat away and keeps the waterproof layer off your skin.

Before you buy

What they won’t do

Most brands only tell you what their socks do. Here’s the other half, so you know before you buy.

They won’t replace your boots.

If your footwear is wrong for the ground, socks won’t fix it. These keep your feet dry. They don’t add grip or ankle support.

Water can get in over the top.

A sock is open at the top. Step into water deeper than the sock and it fills up, the same as any sock would.

They won’t last forever.

Toenails, sharp stones and a tumble dryer will all finish off a waterproof layer. Looked after properly, they last a long time.

You can still get sweaty feet.

Work hard enough and you’ll sweat faster than the membrane can cope with. It slows it down. It doesn’t stop it.

The product film

The sock, in the weather it is for.

This is our own film rather than an independent test, so take it for what it is — the product in the conditions it is sold for. The claim underneath it is checkable, and that is the membrane, not the footage.

Four HydroSox colourways — black, white, black with navy and black with grey — pegged to a washing line against a blue ground, with water thrown across them.

The price

Why we’re £20 and not £40

A fair question. It isn’t a cheaper waterproof layer — it’s everything around it that we don’t have to pay for.

HydroSox compared against a £40 pair, across five criteria.
What matters HydroSox A £40 pair
The waterproof layer HydroSox Porelle®, named on the box. A £40 pair Usually named too. This isn’t where we’ve saved money.
How big the range is HydroSox One product. A £40 pair Hats, gloves, jackets and more. The range has to be paid for.
Where you buy it HydroSox Direct from us. A £40 pair Through shops, each taking a margin.
What they tell you HydroSox We publish what these socks can’t do, in the section above. A £40 pair Very few do.
Who you’re buying from HydroSox A UK company with an address and phone number on every page. A £40 pair Sometimes a marketplace seller with neither.

Made for wudu too

Wipe over them instead of washing your feet.

Masah means wiping over your socks during wudu rather than washing your feet. The socks have to be waterproof, hold their shape and stay on the foot. Ours are made to do all three, and two UK scholars have examined them.

Most people buy two. They air dry rather than tumble dry, so one pair doesn’t always keep up with a wet week.

Size guide

Measure the foot rather than relying on shoe size — sizing is not consistent across brands, and the foot length is what actually has to fit.

Size Foot length UK shoe
S 22.0 - 24.0 cm UK 3-5
M 24.5 - 26.5 cm UK 6-8
L 27.0 - 29.0 cm UK 9-11
XL 29.5 - 32.0 cm UK 12-14

How to measure

Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel to a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure heel to mark.

Between two sizes

Between two bands? Take the larger one. These are a close, stretchy fit — a size down grips the toes and shortens the life of the membrane.

Questions

Common questions

Answered with the same facts as the rest of this page. If one of them contradicts something above, the answer above is the one that is wrong.

Something not here? Phone or email us

Do waterproof socks actually work?

Yes. There’s a waterproof layer sealed inside the sock, so rain, puddles and wet ground don’t reach your foot. Two things worth knowing: water that comes in over the top of the sock stays in, and if you work hard you’ll still sweat.

Will my feet get sweaty?

Less than you’d expect, but yes if you push hard. The middle layer lets sweat out as vapour, which buys you a lot of time. Walking, work and commuting are comfortably within it. A hard run in mild weather isn’t.

Do they replace waterproof boots?

No. They’re the layer that keeps working after your boots have soaked through, which on a wet day is usually a matter of when rather than if. They don’t give you grip or ankle support.

Can I use them for wudu?

Yes, that’s what a lot of people buy them for. They’re waterproof, they hold their shape and they stay on your foot. Two UK scholars have examined them, and the wudu page explains it properly.

What size do I get?

Four sizes cover UK 3 to 14. S is 3–5, M is 6–8, L is 9–11, XL is 12–14. If you’re between two, take the bigger one.

How much is delivery?

Free. UK delivery is included on every order, whether you buy one pair or five — the price you see is the price you pay.

Why are there no reviews?

Because we don’t have any yet. We’re new, and a few five-star reviews with nothing behind them aren’t worth reading. When there are real ones they’ll go here, including the bad ones.
